Apple soll Übernahme von Shazam erwägen

Der US-Technologieriese Apple erwägt die Übernahme des Anbieters der auf Millionen Smartphones weltweit installierten Musikerkennungs-Software Shazam.

Ein mit den Plänen vertrauter Insider bestätigte gegenüber der Nachrichtenagentur Reuters einen entsprechenden Bericht der Website TechCrunch.

If Apple does acquire Shazam, it will upset competing streaming services like Spotify and Google Play Music. Shazam also has a deal with Snapchat. It’s still unclear how the purchase will affect any of these agreements. Launched way back in 1999 and with over 1 billion downloads, Shazam has been one of the most popular apps. But over the last few years, the app has lost some its shine to other popular offerings in the segment. The company only pulled in $54 million in revenue in 2016, while losing $5.3 million in the year.

Dem Bericht zufolge sei ein Kaufpreis von 400 Millionen Dollar im Gespräch. Die Shazam-App hilft Benutzern, Musikstücke zu identifizieren. Dazu wird das Smartphone in Richtung der Musikquelle gehalten.

Shazam ist bereits teilweise in Apples digitalen Software-Assistenten Siri integriert. Mit der Übernahme von Shazam könnte Apple seinen Musikdienst Apple Music stärken. Mit 27 Millionen Abonnenten liegt dieser deutlich hinter dem Rivalen Spotify mit rund 60 Mio. Nutzern. Shazam war für eine Stellungnahme zunächst nicht zu erreichen.
