Der Tod des Schwarzen George Floyd am 25. Mai bei einem brutalen Polizeieinsatz in Minneapolis sorgt in den USA für Entsetzen. In vielen Städten gehen Demonstranten auf die Straßen - und viele Stars protestieren in den sozialen Medien, auch gegen US-Präsident Trump.

In mehreren US-Metropolen kam es in der sechsten Nacht in Folge zu Protesten, die teils in Gewalt ausarteten. 4400 Menschen sind bisher bei den Protesten verhaftet worden. In 40 Städten ist der Ausnahmezustand verhängt worden. Auch vor dem weißen Haus wird protestiert. Trump selbst befeuert die aufgeladene Stimmung mit Tweets. Er fordert volle Härte gegen die Demonstranten und bezeichnet sie als Terroristen.

Von Beyonce bis Billie Eilish: Forderung nach Gerechtigkeit

Beyonce wendet sich in einem Video direkt an ihre Follower und sagt: „Wir brauchen Gerechtigkeit für George Floyd. Wir alle sind Zeugen davon geworden, wie er am helllichten Tag ermordet wurde. Wir sind gebrochen und angewidert. Wir können nicht mehr wegschauen!" Ariana Grande fordert dazu auf, eine Petition zu unterschreiben, die die Verhaftung der beteiligten Polizeibeamten fordert. Billie Eilish schreibt sich in ihrem Posting ihre Wut von der Seele endet mit den Worten: BLACK LIVES MATTER. BLACK LIVES MATTER. BLACK LIVES MATTER. SAY IT AGAIN.“

Dazu schreibt sie: „Ich unterstürze keine Gewalt aber es kommt die Zeit, in der Männer und Frauen nicht mehr länger akzeptieren als Menschen zweiter Klasse behandelt zu werden.“

We cannot be silent anymore... I’ve been going to rally’s since Rodney King... when Treyvon Martin Happened I got a chance to forge a relationship with his mother @sybrinafulton … Who is now running for commissioner in Dade county Miami… we both have witnessed an acceleration of young black man being killed senselessly by police officers and random civilians trying to act like police officers… Being in Minnesota for George Floyd Felt like the straw on the camels back… we have to change policy when it comes to police brutality… We will be heading up to San Francisco tomorrow to meet with the mayor @londonbreed to have a Push for real change!! We cannot let all of these black folk down.... #blacklivesmatter

Past few days I’ve been stunned trying make sense of George Floyd’s death. The video. The plea for breath. The callous response. The racism. The killing. This is our ongoing disease. I’ve had cops in my family. Good men. And there’s a cop code, granting you the authority to use force if your life is in danger. But when a man is handcuffed, on the ground, no longer a threat, with your brothers in arms standing around watching and he struggles to say, “please I can’t breathe” when your knee is on his neck.. not his back, but his neck - cutting off his air. Cop code must become moral code. Ethics code. HUMANITY code. Knowing that if you don’t ease up, then that man is going to die. So when you decide to not ease up, your intention is to kill. And that’s what this was. George Floyd, said “officer I can’t breathe” as he struggled for air. He said these words a total of 15 times. Not once. Not twice. 15 times. These officers will be charged, I’m positive of that. Held accountable. But then where’s the greater accountability? The leadership to healing. More importantly, the leadership to EQUALITY. We ultimately win when we can normalize equality. I’m so sorry to the Floyd family. My heart breaks for you. Let the process begin now. #JusticeForGeorgeFloyd #NormalizeEquality

I want to share parts of the conversations I’ve had with friends over the past couple days about the footage of George Floyd dying face down on the street under the knee of a police officer in Minnesota.⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣ The first is an email from a middle-aged African American businessman.⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣ “Dude I gotta tell you the George Floyd incident in Minnesota hurt. I cried when I saw that video. It broke me down. The ‘knee on the neck’ is a metaphor for how the system so cavalierly holds black folks down, ignoring the cries for help. People don’t care. Truly tragic.”⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣ Another friend of mine used the powerful song that went viral from 12-year-old Keedron Bryant to describe the frustrations he was feeling.⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣ The circumstances of my friend and Keedron may be different, but their anguish is the same. It’s shared by me and millions of others.⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣ It’s natural to wish for life “to just get back to normal” as a pandemic and economic crisis upend everything around us. But we have to remember that for millions of Americans, being treated differently on account of race is tragically, painfully, maddeningly “normal” – whether it’s while dealing with the health care system, or interacting with the criminal justice system, or jogging down the street, or just watching birds in a park.⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣ This shouldn’t be “normal” in 2020 America. It can’t be “normal.” If we want our children to grow up in a nation that lives up to its highest ideals, we can and must be better.⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣ It will fall mainly on the officials of Minnesota to ensure that the circumstances surrounding George Floyd’s death are investigated thoroughly and that justice is ultimately done. But it falls on all of us, regardless of our race or station – including the majority of men and women in law enforcement who take pride in doing their tough job the right way, every day – to work together to create a “new normal” in which the legacy of bigotry and unequal treatment no longer infects our institutions or our hearts.
